Abridged The Dark Knight Sequel Treatment: Catwoman, Poison Ivy and The Riddler

Recently, First Showing had its The Dark Knight sequel idea contest. Since I had just done a post on where TDK should go next, I edited it down to less than 500 words (497, so barely) and entered. It didn’t win, but I feel like it’s still worth posting. Judging anything is subjective, so you might enjoy it. Definitely head over there and check out the winners, too–good stuff. Oh, also, I’m going to be hosting a similar contest soon, with the winner getting a new Blu-Ray DVD. One clue: it’s not a Batman contest. Make sure to come back and check out the contest next week.

My TDK sequel mock treatment is after the jump:

Batman struggles to make any progress in his pursuit of The Riddler (Hugo Weaving), a Zodiac-style serial killer. Being both hunted by the law and trashed by the public makes things even more difficult. Since he isn’t doing much good in Gotham as Batman, he’s trying to do good globally as Bruce Wayne. With the help of famed ecologist Pamela Isley (Angelina Jolie), his new squeeze, Wayne Enterprises is developing a groundbreaking new “green energy” project. Pamela is completely consumed by the project, her life’s work. She’s also pushing Bruce to make a deeper commitment to her. He’s still not completely over Rachel, and Gotham still needs its Caped Crusader, so he won’t make that kind of commitment. He’s also keeping “the secret” from her, which strains the relationship.

The Riddler sets up Batman and Gotham’s finest, so instead of finding him they find each other. A shootout ensues. Batman gets wounded and is almost captured, when Selina Kyle (Kate Winslet), a sexy street prostitute, helps him. She trades one of her doctor clients free incalls for helping Bruce. She also discovers Bruce’s true identity, but no worries–she has been smitten over Batman for a long time. To repay her, Bruce takes her out of the slums and get her a job as his stylist.

Selina puts the full-court press on Bruce, Demi Moore-in-Disclosure-style. Bruce rejects her. He has deep feelings for Pamela and wants to protect her. Selina suffers a psychotic breakdown and decides she is going to ruin both Bruce and Batman. She robs Wayne Enterprises as a Cat burglar, and steals the funds and resources to give birth to Catwoman. Selina then goes on the Mike Engal show and reveals Batman’s identity, forcing Bruce into seclusion.

Bruce calls things off with Pamela, for her own protection. He also puts her “green energy” project on hold until Wayne Enterprises restores its name. This infuriates Pamela, and she remains determined to go through with her dream project. Poison Ivy, eco-terrorist extraordinaire is born.

While Batman is out hunting The Riddler, Poison Ivy poisons Alfred and takes him hostage. She knew their secret location and waited until Alfred was alone to strike. She alone has the anecdote to her botanical poison that she threatens to turn on Gotham if Bruce doesn’t sign a contract giving her full control of her former project.

Meanwhile, just as Batman is about to capture the Riddler, Catwoman blindsides him out of nowhere. Knowing who she is instantly, Batman refuses to fight back. He can’t talk any sense into her, so he retreats, but not before taking an ass whooping. When Bruce returns to Wayne Manor, he finds Alfred missing and a ransom note.

With his identity exposed, and the public and the law set against him, Batman faces his stiffest challenge yet–a criminal triumvirate hellbent on destroying him. Can Batman save Alfred and Gotham? Can he defeat Catwoman, Poison Ivy and The Riddler? The situation looks bleak for The Dark Knight.
